I began my journey in electronics from a passion that began in childhood. I have always been interested in technology and how different devices work. At first, I assembled simple circuits, and then delved into the study of components and the principles of their interaction. This passion led me to study electronics at university, where I gained in-depth knowledge and practical skills. My desire to develop in this field continued after my studies, when I began working on real-world projects. Thus, I became part of the world of electronics, which continues to inspire me and open new horizons.
As a child, I suffered from asthma, and my parents learned that playing wind instruments could alleviate my condition. So, they decided to enroll me in clarinet lessons. Later, I also began studying the piano, as my parents believed that developing finger dexterity would be useful in life.
I went through all the stages of classical music education, starting from music school and culminating in the Moscow Conservatory. This path was not easy, but it opened up many opportunities for me in the musical field.
Having a classical music education can significantly impact the creation of high-quality sound. It helps a musician gain a deeper understanding of musical theory, harmony, and the structure of works. This knowledge allows them to more accurately interpret musical ideas and create complex compositions. Classical education also develops instrumental skills and helps develop an ear for music, which is especially important when working with various genres of music. Thus, classical music education becomes an essential tool for achieving a high level of mastery and creating a unique sound.
Certifications are not required to create high-quality sound. However, if your goal is to dedicate your life to classical music, perform in orchestras, or teach at classical music schools, then without the appropriate diplomas, you will have a difficult time breaking into this field.
If you simply strive to create music, form your own band, and enjoy performing, an academic education can be limiting and hinder your creative process. Often, formal knowledge does not match your desires and style. It is important to follow your instincts and develop a unique musical style that reflects your personality. Creativity requires freedom, and sometimes it is the absence of strict boundaries that allows a musician to realize their potential.
This is a thought that constantly arises when creating musical tracks. It acts as a final mentor in composition, hindering the free flow of the creative process.
Basic knowledge of solfeggio is certainly useful for every musician. However, it can be mastered in a couple of months, rather than the traditional 5-8 years, including music school, college, and conservatory. Modern approaches to teaching significantly reduce the time spent studying this discipline, making mastering the basics of musical theory and practice accessible.
Classical music education has its drawbacks that can impact a musician's development. One of the main drawbacks is the excessive formalization of the learning process. Students often face rigid frameworks, which limits their creative potential and freedom of expression. Also, training can focus on technical aspects, while important elements such as improvisation and personal style may be overlooked.
To compensate for these shortcomings, I began actively exploring various musical directions and styles. I began attending master classes that taught not only classical techniques but also contemporary approaches. This allowed me to expand my horizons and integrate new ideas into my practice.
Furthermore, I began focusing on improvisation, which helped me develop confidence in my musical skills. I began experimenting with creating my own compositions, which gave me the opportunity to express my feelings and emotions through music. As a result, I was able to overcome the limitations of a classical education and create a unique style that reflects my individuality.
Thus, despite the disadvantages of a classical music education, I found ways to develop and adapt, which allowed me to become a more versatile and creative musician.
Music training requires a significant amount of time, comparable to medical training. First, you need to complete a five-year course at a music school, then four years at a college, and five years at a conservatory. Unfortunately, this training emphasizes craft skills, which can limit students' creative potential.
We emerge from a "canned" environment, which accurately reflects the atmosphere of the educational process and the approach to teaching students. We become artisans, able to repeat the ideas of other composers, and this has always upset me. I didn't want to be a simple performer of other composers' brilliant works, as that seemed like self-deception to me. So I began composing music at a young age and immediately realized that composing was my true passion.
I respect the work of artisans, but I don't feel called to it myself. My main obstacle is my knowledge and perception. In an interview with Celentano, he was once asked how he became a successful actor without formal training. He replied that this allows him to maintain a childlike sincerity on camera, because children embody sincerity. This statement resonates deeply with me and reflects my position.
I often intentionally create music with non-professionals, which brings a sense of sincerity and ease to the process. This experience confirms that brilliant ideas are often simple and accessible to everyone. Collaborating with people without formal musical training allows for new perspectives and sounds to be revealed, creating unique compositions that reflect genuine emotion and creativity.
Sound design is an important part of the creative process in the creation of audiovisual content. It is not just technical work, but an opportunity to express ideas and emotions through sounds. Each element of sound design, from background music to sound effects, helps create a unique atmosphere and convey the mood of the work. A creative approach to sound design not only improves the quality of content but also makes it more memorable for the audience. It is important to consider how sound elements interact with the visual part to achieve harmony and enhance the overall impression. Thus, sound design becomes an integral part of artistic expression and creating a deep emotional response in listeners.
Creating something new is always associated with creativity. Whether it's sound design, music for an advertisement, or a track you wrote for yourself, it's important to realize that you are a creator, and nothing can limit you. The key is the process of creating and expressing your ideas. Enjoy the freedom of creativity and don't be afraid to experiment.
It's important to share your experiences: tell us how you overcame fear and created your first track. How can you learn to overcome criticism and failure? What methods can help you overcome the fear of mistakes? Share your approach to overcoming obstacles on the path to musical creativity.
Many people with a degree face complexes that hinder them from developing and adapting to modern realities. Observations of classmates show that a classical education, although valuable, can become a source of insecurity and fear. These complexes often arise from inflated expectations and pressure associated with obtaining a degree. Therefore, it is important to rethink traditional approaches to education and the profession in order to minimize the impact of these complexes on personal and professional development.
Many classical musicians face a serious problem: they cannot create something unique, because the attitudes of the teacher who dictates "how it should be" are ingrained in their minds. This situation hinders free creative expression and limits the possibilities for developing original musical ideas. However, it's important to recognize that true creativity requires courage and self-confidence. Musicians should strive for individuality, move beyond traditional norms, and find their own unique style. This will allow them not only to develop as performers but also to contribute to contemporary musical art.
This applies to psychology. It's important to free yourself from limiting beliefs, let them go, and realize that these rules aren't your own, but rather hinder your development. Anton Maskeliade, a teacher at the School of Sound Engineering and Electronic Music, was a significant help in this regard. He acted not only as a theorist but also as a music psychologist, which provided a powerful impetus for my creativity and helped me overcome my fears.
The sound design industry continues to evolve and open new horizons. Every year, the demand for high-quality sound increases in various fields, including film, games, advertising, and virtual reality. Technological advances such as artificial intelligence and new software solutions are creating additional opportunities for professionals in this field.
Those planning to study sound design can expect dynamic growth and a variety of career paths. It's important to develop both technical skills and creative thinking. Adapting to current trends and constantly learning new technologies will help you become a sought-after specialist.
With the growth of digital platforms and the increase in media content, qualified sound designers will be in high demand. This opens doors to new opportunities, including freelancing and working for international companies. Studying sound design now is an investment in a bright and promising future.
It's never too late to start creating content on TikTok, writing music, or starting a Twitter account. Everyone has the opportunity to find their audience. The key is to do this for yourself, without expecting immediate profit or fame, as these will come with time.
Learning to effectively interact with artificial intelligence is essential. This will be a crucial step in our lives, as AI is increasingly permeating various fields. Learning to work with artificial intelligence will open up new opportunities and increase our productivity. It's important to understand how to use AI to improve processes, enhance work quality, and achieve goals. Such collaboration will allow us to adapt to the rapidly changing world of technology.
Sound designers, or sound engineers, play a key role in the creation of audiovisual content. Their work involves creating, recording, and processing sound effects, music, and dialogue, which significantly impacts the overall perception of a project. The key characteristics of a sound designer's work include a deep understanding of sound technology, a creative approach, and the ability to adapt to the requirements of various projects.
As for earnings, a sound designer's income can vary depending on experience, qualifications, and the type of project. On average, entry-level professionals can expect to earn between 30,000 and 50,000 rubles per month, while experienced professionals with a strong portfolio can earn 100,000 rubles or more. Given the growing demand for high-quality sound in film, games, and advertising, the sound engineer profession offers good prospects for career advancement and increased income.
Determining a composer's exact income is difficult, as most work freelance. Word of mouth plays a significant role in our field, so it's important to actively communicate and offer your services. The composer profession remains in high demand as the volume of content is constantly growing.
Receiving orders from large international companies presents certain challenges. The main difficulties include the language barrier, differences in business culture, and product quality requirements. It's also necessary to consider the specifics of international logistics and the legal aspects associated with doing business abroad. Companies seeking to work with international clients must pay special attention to adapting their offerings and services to meet the expectations of their foreign partners. Previously, interacting with foreign companies in the Russian market was significantly easier, as most of them had representative offices in Russia. I had the opportunity to collaborate with brands such as Audi Russia and McDonald's Russia, as well as with other foreign companies that were then successfully operating in the country. However, the advertising market has changed, and many of these companies have left. Therefore, I had to register on LinkedIn to continue professional networking and seek out new opportunities.
What do you work on? What programs do you use and which ones can you recommend? Where can I find sounds for my projects?
Currently, I actively use Ableton Live in my work. This program attracts me with its well-thought-out architecture and versatility, allowing you to effectively create music both in the studio and during live performances. Ableton Live's capabilities make it an ideal tool for modern musicians and DJs, providing flexibility and convenience in the creative process.
Modern digital audio workstations (DAWs) are largely similar to each other, as are modern smartphones on iOS and Android. Although each program has its own characteristics, they are not critical. Switching to a different DAW may cause some discomfort, but all the core features will remain the same. This makes choosing a DAW less important than it might seem at first glance, as many users can easily adapt to a new working environment. You can find countless videos online of people creating sounds from unusual objects, such as mushrooms, trees, their own bodies, and subway lamps. Have you ever tried this? How exactly does sound extraction from such objects work? The process is based on the acoustic properties of materials and their interaction with the environment. Each object has its own unique characteristics that influence sound waves. Using various techniques, you can create interesting and unexpected audio forms, opening up new horizons in the world of sound art.
An important point to consider: many TikTok videos featuring mushrooms or leaves connected with wires don't quite reflect reality. In reality, any object capable of transmitting an electromagnetic pulse can be used as a controller. Interacting with this object, whether it's a leaf or a mushroom, can produce a sound. However, the exact sound heard is determined by the creator, who configures it on a computer or synthesizer. This opens up wide possibilities for creativity and experimentation in music and sound design.
I recommend paying attention to online platforms for self-study. Sites like Coursera, Udemy, and edX offer a wide selection of courses on various topics. You should also consider resources like Khan Academy and Codecademy, which provide free lessons and materials. Don't forget about YouTube, where you can find many educational videos on the areas you're interested in. Reading specialized blogs and participating in forums will also help you deepen your knowledge and exchange experiences with other students.
I am an adherent of the Maskeliade school and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to create music with ease. At this school, you will not only gain a solid foundation of knowledge, but also join a close-knit community with whom you can interact even after graduation. I personally found at least half of my work projects through interactions with the school’s students.
If you are looking to develop your skills in the field of audio, there are several key books that will help you deepen your knowledge and understanding of this field. These works cover various aspects of sound recording, sound design, and music theory.
One of the most recommended books is “The Mixing Engineer’s Handbook” by Bobby O’Wen. It provides useful tips on mixing and mastering, which are the foundation for creating high-quality sound. Also worth checking out is “Sound System Engineering” by Dan Dalton and Vincent P. Brown, which covers the fundamentals of acoustics and sound system design.
Equally important is Daniel Levitin's "This Is Your Brain on Music," which explores the connection between music and the brain to help you better understand sound perception. Richard Haupt's "The Art of Music Production" is another essential read, introducing the recording and production processes.
These books will help you build a solid foundation in recording and music, useful for both beginners and seasoned professionals. Reading these works will enrich your understanding of sound and help you reach new heights in your career.

What skills will help you become a more sought-after specialist? Based on my experience, both technical and soft skills are important. Technical skills include knowledge of modern technologies and tools required to perform tasks in your field. Soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and time management, also play a key role. Continuously learning and developing your competencies will help you stand out from the competition and increase your value in the job market.
Key qualities required for success in any field include hard work, communication skills, a desire to learn new things, and punctuality. These characteristics not only aid professional growth but also help establish effective relationships with colleagues and clients.
