Or he will decide to free himself from them, once again embarking on the path of revenge, especially now that his son can come to his aid.

The structure again returns to the familiar and beloved by many Format: Amid a major investigation, Dexter encounters new criminals he must deal with. The first on this list could be a serial killer terrorizing New York City: he's already claimed the lives of seven people and shows no signs of stopping, targeting taxi passengers. This villain has been nicknamed the "Dark Hitcher Killer," and this reference has its own significance. Judging by the trailer, which helped fans unravel the identity of the first criminal in the new series, his next victim may be Dexter himself.

It was hard not to notice that the original series did not live up to expectations: the ratings left much to be desired, and the entire team realized that they were moving in the wrong direction. Streaming platforms offer a wide variety of projects, from high-quality and accessible to more entertaining fare that lack a deep focus. In this context, the emergence of series like "Mindhunter" and "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" has revolutionized the industry. The series has captured the attention of viewers raised on investigative shows like "True Detective." In "Mindhunter," two FBI agents interrogate convicted serial killers with the goal of creating the most accurate psychological profile possible. David Fincher, the acclaimed director behind films like "Fight Club" and "Gone Girl," serves as executive producer on this project, developed specifically for Netflix. The presence of such a renowned author raised high expectations among the audience. Despite the fact that the series gathered a significant audience, the platform considered the results insufficient and decided to close it.

Ryan Murphy, known for his terrifying works about psychopaths, became The director of the Dahmer drama successfully attracted fans of American Horror Story to the series. However, not everyone was satisfied: relatives of the victims expressed dissatisfaction, calling the viewing "retraumatizing" due to the detailed scenes of murders and trials. Nevertheless, the creators of the show argue that the veracity of the events depicted is one of its key strengths, ensuring a fair discussion of crimes.

In light of the active discussions about how to accurately represent criminals, a debate has also arisen about the moral aspects: can we even feel sympathy for a serial killer? The creators of Dahmer are convinced of the need for a realistic approach: by honestly showing all the horrors of the crimes committed, it will be much easier to avoid romanticizing such individuals.

The original Dexter appeared at a time when headlines could confidently claim that it was the story of the "most charming" serial killer in pop culture. Today, such a statement seems ridiculous, but Dexter still commands admiration for his charisma, and references to the series continue to appear in numerous modern projects.

Over the past few years, the character has gained a genuine cult following. In one episode of Supernatural, Dean jokingly refers to his brother Sam as "Dexter," commenting on his comment about two-facedness. Meanwhile, one of the characters on Brooklyn Nine-Nine admits he's never watched the show, but still knows how useful plastic suits are. The main character of the new series "You" also evokes associations with Dexter: his style of clothing sometimes resembles the image of the famous killer, and in one of the episodes it is mentioned that he "killed the girl just like Dexter did."

For them, Dexter represents something out of the old cinema of the early 2000s: it looks original, but does not meet modern moral standards.

Longing for eras that they were unable to experience has become a characteristic trait of Zoomers and representatives of the Alpha generation. This feeling has also led to an unexpected surge of interest in the series Dexter, which is evident in the numerous fan edits appearing on social media. Interestingly, the series has managed to avoid the criticism that many other popular projects of the early 2000s face: the younger generation is beginning to realize that Sex and the City is filled with antipathy towards the women it tells the story of.

It seems that Dexter has already faced its fair share of backlash. Thus, when the series returned in 2008, advertisements for the project flooded the internet. In response, the president of the Parents Television Council called on television networks to stop airing it. The organization even considered taking special action against anyone who financed the show.
