Childhood memories, a shared love of craftsmanship, and unlimited access to knowledge online create ideal conditions for bringing unconventional concepts to life. We discussed with Dima Danilin how his viral projects, which harmoniously intertwine elements of everyday life and deep nostalgia, come into being.

31 years old, St. Petersburg. In this city, filled with history and culture, life goes on every day. St. Petersburg offers unique opportunities for professional and personal growth. Here you can find a variety of events, exhibitions, and concerts that enrich life and create new connections. This city is also known for its beautiful landscapes, architectural masterpieces, and rich cultural heritage, making it attractive to both locals and tourists. St. Petersburg is more than just a place on the map; it is a true cultural capital of Russia, where new horizons open up every day.

About the Passion

A passion for craftsmanship was born from a deep need to create something unique and useful. Inspiration came from traditions passed down from generation to generation, when manual labor was valued above all else. This desire for self-expression and the desire to master the skills that enable ideas to be brought to life have become the foundation for many artisans. Craftsmanship not only preserves cultural heritage but also fosters individuality, allowing everyone to create and experiment with materials and forms. A passion for crafts not only helps improve skills but also helps us find harmony in the creative process, making it an important aspect of personal development.

From a very early age, I spent summers in the village, where I enthusiastically watched my grandfather and father build extensions to the house. They masterfully used various tools, and over time, they began to trust me to participate in this process. This left a deep mark on my childhood and shaped my interest in construction and crafts.

From the age of nine, I was actively involved in building shelters, using handsaws and planes. By the age of fifteen, I was already creating full-fledged landscape designs, such as windmills and huts on chicken legs. For this work, I used real "adult" machines, assembled by my grandfather from car parts. This experience has formed the foundation of my woodworking and design skills, allowing me to create unique projects for my garden and yard.

As I've gotten older, my interests have changed and I've begun to discover unexpected solutions, but the passion for creativity that began in childhood remains with me. I implement each new project with enthusiasm and childish passion, which gives my creations uniqueness and energy.

What is your main education and where are you studying in the field of machine tools, materials, parts and design?

I received my education in I graduated from the Kuibyshev Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MISI), specializing in Heat, Gas Supply, and Ventilation, but I've never worked as an engineer. I've worked as an electrician on the Moscow metro, as a carpenter for two furniture companies, as a builder of concrete and wooden skate parks, as an administrator at a trampoline center, and as a skateboarding instructor. I currently work on blogger Dani Kraster's team, where over the past five years I've held various roles, from general laborer to screenwriter, crafter, and director. My experience in these areas allows me to develop skills and deepen my knowledge in the field of creative content and project management.

I strive for continuous development in all areas of my life.

In the modern world, access to information has become easier and more convenient than ever. Previously, finding the literature you needed required time-consuming trips to libraries and hoping they had the books you were looking for. Today, we have the ability to gain knowledge anytime, anywhere. We can access video tutorials, step-by-step instructions, and a multitude of other resources with just a few clicks. This significantly simplifies the learning process and expands our horizons for self-development. It's surprising that even in today's world, many people struggle to find a passion. This may be due to a lack of motivation or a fear of new challenges. It's important to understand that finding a hobby or passion can significantly enrich your life, help you develop new skills, and improve your overall well-being. Strive to discover new horizons and find joy in what is truly interesting.

The knowledge gained from my grandfather and dad certainly played an important role in my formation. They were the ones who planted the seeds of a passion for handmade crafts in my childhood mind, and I'm convinced that this passion continues to develop and strengthen within me.

I've become more selective in my learning, focusing only on the necessary knowledge and avoiding unnecessary information. For example, I don't like working with glass, and I've developed this attitude. Also, complex two-component compositions are very stressful for me, so lately I've preferred to do without them in my projects.

On Balance

Joining projects and my main job is a task that requires a competent approach to organizing time and resources. To avoid burnout in both areas, it's important to set clear priorities and learn to manage your time effectively.

One of the key points is planning. Using a calendar or planner helps distribute tasks across days and weeks, which prevents the accumulation of work and stress. It's also important to make time for rest and recuperation to maintain high productivity both at work and on projects.

Working in a team can also significantly facilitate this process. Delegating tasks and collaborating with colleagues can reduce workload and improve the quality of completed projects. Furthermore, regular breaks and exercise help maintain balance and stay motivated.

Ultimately, proper planning, delegating tasks, and taking care of your health are key factors in successfully balancing projects and your main job without the risk of burnout.

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion that occurs as a result of prolonged stress or excessive workload. Many people don't realize how it manifests until they experience its consequences. Burnout can manifest not only as fatigue, but also as decreased concentration, loss of interest in work, and even physical discomfort, such as headaches or digestive problems. It's important to be able to recognize the symptoms of burnout so you can take timely measures to prevent it and restore your energy balance.

I'm doing what I truly enjoy. My work brings me joy, and I enjoy pursuing my hobbies. This approach makes work much easier and more comfortable.

After work, I can spend almost the entire night working on my project. However, lack of sleep hinders me, negatively impacting my health and productivity. It's important to remember that lack of sleep can impact your overall well-being and performance. Never neglect your health for the sake of work. Take care of your sleep and find a balance between projects and rest.

Fatigue is present, but burnout is not. I have a lot of ideas, and every evening I add new ones to my list. A big advantage is that I set my own deadlines for my projects. This allows me, in moments of complete fatigue, to take a break for a day or two to recover or switch to other activities. This approach helps maintain motivation and productivity and prevents resource depletion.

I work on various ideas in parallel, which allows me to effectively distract myself when problems arise. It's important to switch to other tasks in a timely manner, since returning to the original problem after some time often leads to a solution naturally. This approach not only helps relieve stress but also promotes creative thinking and improved productivity.

Everyone is unique, and I have adapted to my work style. Some prefer to focus on one project from start to finish. I, however, focus more on conceptual ideas than fully completed solutions. My products are functional and have an attractive design, but further refinement is required to launch them into mass production.

If you have an abandoned project, it is important Figure out why it failed. Often, the cause can be a lack of resources, a lack of a clear strategy, or problems within the team. You may have experienced a lack of time or motivation, which could also have affected the results. The market is an equally important factor—perhaps your project didn't meet the current requirements or interests of the target audience. Analyzing these reasons will help you avoid similar mistakes in the future and create a successful project.

I don't recall any projects being completely abandoned. However, there are a few that are on hold. In such cases, I wait for the necessary supplies to arrive, experiment with new technologies, or encounter difficulties that hinder progress.

Facing difficult challenges is a natural part of the process. I find a certain excitement in this, which motivates me to achieve new goals and take on new tasks. Solving complex problems brings satisfaction and inspiration, which contributes to my personal and professional growth.

I recently presented a cow clock project, detailing a moss-growing method. However, this approach ultimately didn't work, so I decided to change the technique. While it would have been possible to remove unnecessary materials since the result was ineffective, I believe it's important for viewers to see the entire process, including failures. This allows for a better understanding of how experimentation and the search for optimal solutions occur.

Many people are accustomed to seeing perfect results the first time, which creates a false sense of the process. In reality, creating something with your own hands takes time and effort. Understanding this fact will help you get rid of the fear of failure and allow you to develop your skills. Instead of thinking of yourself as incompetent, it's important to realize that mistakes are an integral part of learning and growth. With patience and persistence, you can achieve significant success in any endeavor.

I admit that I have difficulties with my hands, and I am not ashamed to admit it.

Working on The most difficult aspect of self-improvement is objective self-assessment. We often fail to clearly assess our strengths and weaknesses, which hinders the process of self-improvement. Difficulties can also arise from internal resistance that prevents us from achieving our goals. Self-discipline and motivation play a key role in this process, and they can become a serious obstacle to success. It is important to be able to set realistic goals and find ways to achieve them so as not to lose interest in self-improvement.

Video editing is a complex process that involves working with a large amount of material. I often shoot several hours of video, and then need to condense it into one minute. Viewers often don't realize how much effort and time goes into processing and editing the material behind the scenes. Every detail is important, and editing is what allows you to create an interesting and dynamic video that holds the audience's attention.

It would have been possible to limit the number of stages in the filming process to fewer, but experience working on YouTube has shown that having an excess of footage is much preferable to having too little at a critical moment. If you think creating and implementing an idea is the hardest part, you're wrong. This process involves a multitude of nuances: developing a script, writing the text, recording the voiceover, and editing. Each of these stages requires care and professionalism, which ultimately affects the quality of the final product.

When I encounter technical difficulties, on the contrary, it inspires me. These challenges encourage me to look for solutions and develop my skills. Technical challenges can be a great opportunity to learn and improve.

I enjoy learning new technologies and computer programs to implement my projects. I select the information needed to achieve specific goals, which makes the learning process more effective. This approach allows me to focus on what's truly important for finalizing 3D models rather than delving into each program in detail. Despite this, I still gain significant experience, which helps me improve my skills and expand my capabilities in working with various tools.

Fear of new beginnings is a common problem for many people. Don't be afraid! Any profession can be mastered by dedicating at least an hour a day after work. The quarantine period has become a time when many realized the importance of self-improvement and the opportunity to learn. Start learning something new today, and you'll be surprised how quickly you can develop your skills and discover new horizons.

About the Content

What gives design soul? Perhaps it's time and personal memories that influence the creative process. Emotions associated with certain moments in life can inspire designers and fill their work with depth and meaning. Each piece of design becomes more than just a visual object, but a reflection of the author's inner world, their experiences and associations. It's important to understand that design not only solves practical problems but also conveys feelings, creating a unique atmosphere and a memorable experience for viewers. Thus, time and personal memories play a key role in shaping the essence of design, enriching it with emotional content.

I am confident that when you create something without selfish intentions, but guided by an inner call, your product will certainly have a soul. This lends uniqueness and special meaning to each creation. A creative process rooted in sincerity and inner inspiration makes the result truly valuable and memorable. In this case, your piece becomes more than just an object, but a reflection of your feelings and thoughts, making it significantly more appealing to others.

The soul of a design disappears as soon as the product hits the assembly line. The first example is the most valuable, even if it contains flaws and imperfections. Although the soul may evaporate, the concept itself lives on: the artist gains fame, and their work becomes a benchmark and classic of its time. It's important to understand that the uniqueness and originality of early models lays the foundation for subsequent interpretations and inspires new generations of designers. Thus, even in mass production, the creative spirit is preserved, which shapes cultural trends and influences the development of design.

Designer stools are a unique combination of aesthetics and functionality. These pieces of furniture are not only comfortable, but can also become a real decoration of any interior. In modern interiors, designer stools can be used as an accent, adding style and personality. It is important to note that they come in a variety of shapes, materials, and colors, which makes it easy to integrate them into various design styles - from minimalism to classic.

The choice of designer stools can depend on your preferences and needs. For example, stools with metal or wooden bases and bright upholstery are suitable for a modern interior, while for classic interiors, it is better to choose models with carved elements and soft fabrics.

When purchasing designer stools, it is also worth paying attention to their functionality. Many models are folding or multifunctional, making them convenient for use in limited spaces. Another important aspect is the quality of the materials from which the stools are made, as this directly affects their durability and comfort.

Therefore, designer stools are not just a piece of furniture, but an important detail that can transform a space and highlight your individual style.

Personal memories play a significant role in my designs. For example, in the design of a water pump, which I converted into a battery-powered bottle pump, I based it on my memories. In the village, my grandmother had an old blue pump with a unique taste and smell of water – these images remain in your memory for a lifetime. Using such detailed memories, I strive to create pieces that are not only functional but also evoke emotions associated with childhood and family traditions. Each of my creations is not just an object, but a continuation of a story that conveys an atmosphere and feelings familiar to many.

While my replica doesn't add flavor to the water, its appearance and tactile sensation convey the atmosphere of warm summer days. This is the essence of the soul.

Mass production of this item can lead to the loss of its uniqueness. People perceive the object differently: for some, its design evokes positive emotions and nostalgia, while others seek to get rid of any associations associated with it. This difference in perception highlights the importance of a customized approach to product creation and distribution to maintain their value and appeal to different consumer groups.

The creation of a breadbox in the shape of a shell garage sparked interest among people, dividing them into two groups. One group enthusiastically asked to sell this original product, while the other was surprised, having never seen such an iconic car shelter in their backyards. This shows how unique and creative objects can evoke different reactions and opinions in society.

Completing products often becomes a tedious process, which can affect the quality of the result. Therefore, I avoid collaborating with people who offer to create keychains for stores or similar projects. I have a hunch that the final product will not meet my expectations. This approach to work helps me maintain a high standard of quality and avoid disappointment for both myself and my clients.

You create not only in the "Soviet retro" style. How do you develop your visual imagery? What inspires you, and how do certain images become the basis for new ideas and projects?

Soviet retro has become a popular phenomenon, which was quite expected: in any country, people strive to remember and appreciate their past. However, I plan to gradually introduce new visual ideas and images on social media. I don't like to stick to one direction for too long, and I'm open to evolving and experimenting with different styles.

I'm passionate about cinema and always find something captivating about it. Every era in cinematic history has its own unique characteristics that draw attention. Even in modern times, when many films are created using green cycloramas and computer graphics, I remain interested in this art form. Cinema is constantly evolving, and new technologies offer us endless possibilities for creativity and storytelling.

If I am tasked with developing products on a specific theme, I can come up with initial ideas in just ten minutes. I like the initial ideas, because they are often the most unusual. Although such ideas may seem absurd, this does not diminish their value and right to exist.

Writing down or sketching ideas is an important habit that helps improve productivity and organize your thoughts. I don't consider myself a forgetful person, but keeping notes on my work helps prevent information loss and significantly streamlines the work process. This practice helps you focus on tasks and use your time effectively, which is especially important in creative work. Don't miss the opportunity to capture your thoughts and ideas to make the creative process more structured and successful. What modern household items will become symbols of warmth? What things will we remember in 30 years, eager to capture them in foam and spray paint? It's important to consider which everyday objects and moments can evoke nostalgia and leave a mark on our memories. Perhaps these will be simple joys, such as evening get-togethers with friends, cozy family dinners, or favorite objects that have become part of our lives. Each of these things has the potential to become not only a memory but also part of an artistic expression reflecting our era.

I propose making a prediction, and in thirty years we'll see how accurate it was.

Modern smartphones are a vivid symbol of our lives, and I'm confident that in the 2060s, their design and functionality will undergo significant changes. Perhaps these devices will become an integral part of our bodies, integrating into our brains, and modern iPhones will be remembered in the same way as cassette tapes with a rewinding pencil from the 1990s. Given the rapid development of technology, it can be assumed that the future of mobile devices will be associated with new forms of interaction and convenience for users.

iPhone: Design Evolution from 2007 to 2024

Since its introduction in 2007, the iPhone has become not only a symbol of technological progress, but also an important element of the design evolution in the mobile industry. Each new release of the device introduced changes that not only improved functionality but also changed the perception of mobile phones.

The first iPhone, released in 2007, surprised users with its minimalist design and intuitive interface. Over time, Apple continued to improve the appearance of the device, introducing new materials such as aluminum and glass, which gave the iPhone a premium look and feel.

In 2010, the iPhone 4 introduced the concept of the Retina display, which became the standard for all subsequent models. This move not only improved image quality but also influenced the overall design of the device, which became thinner and more elegant.

With the release of the iPhone 6 in 2014, Apple focused on increasing screen sizes, which was in line with market trends. This decision opened up new possibilities for users and developers, and also led to a change in interface design.

In 2017, the iPhone X became a landmark device, introducing a bezel-less screen and Face ID technology. This move marked a shift to a new design standard, with an emphasis on screen real estate and maximizing the use of the front panel.

With each new generation, through 2024, Apple continues to refine the iPhone design, introducing innovative technologies and maintaining a commitment to quality. Future models promise new features, such as improved cameras and more efficient processors, while remaining true to the aesthetics that made the iPhone an icon in the world of technology.

Thus, the evolution of iPhone design from 2007 to 2024 reflects not only changes in technology but also the changing needs of users, creating a unique combination of style and functionality.

E-cigarettes, electric scooters, and car sharing have become an integral part of our daily lives. Who knows how they will change in 30 years, but these technologies are already leaving a noticeable mark on our consciousness. We constantly observe their spread, actively use them, and hear about them in the news. Despite this, I prefer traditional modes of transportation, such as a regular skateboard, and have never used car sharing.

Tripods with lighting have become an integral part of the lives of modern bloggers and content creators. They are widely available, driven by the growing popularity of video content creation and the active use of social media. This trend, particularly noticeable among young people, underscores the desire for high-quality visual content. Owning such equipment allows you to create professional and attractive materials, which undoubtedly influences success online.

If you think about it, this list is endless. I'm sure that in 30 years, we will be creating objects not with foam and spray paint, but by transferring ideas to high-tech 3D printers capable of printing from unique materials. This would be significantly more exciting. With such technology, I would have the opportunity to implement many interesting projects daily, but everything in due time.
