The Kazan Center for Contemporary Art "Smena", together with the Moscow Voznesensky Center, restored and expanded The Light Music Museum, which operated in Kazan in the 1970s and 1980s, did not end there. However, their work did not end there. The exhibition presents information about significant advances in media art and audiovisual technology, as well as the international connections of innovative artists, futuristic techno-optimism, and the creation of visual relaxation technologies for astronauts. The Thaw was a time when technology, production, and belief in them were actively integrated into art and philosophy, resulting in the creation of unusual objects imbued with meaning and music. Among the exhibits, you can hear previously unreleased music by Stanislav Krejci, recorded on the first Soviet photo-optical synthesizer, the ANS, which in itself is a significant event!

The main focus of the current exhibition is on images of popular culture in the broadest sense: here you can find interpretations of biblical stories, national ornaments, as well as elements from social media and Japanese pop culture. In In the 1920s and 1930s, Moscow was full of innovative ideas for transforming the urban environment: from constructivism to the concepts of garden cities and communal housing, as well as new forms of organizing everyday life. In a lecture at the Museum of Moscow, researchers of early Soviet architecture Alexander Dudnev and Konstantin Gudkov will shed light on this historical period.
