We understand what people feel when they complete courses. A newcomer to IT has many questions and doubts. The main fear is being left without a job and not living up to their efforts.

Many people are afraid of this, and that's normal. Fear quickly goes away when you objectively evaluate your skills. After all, good specialists are always in demand. Regardless of market conditions.

Let's imagine that the Skillbox.by editorial team took the course. And they have a lot of questions after completing it. We spoke with specialists from the Career Development Center and got answers to all our questions.

What to do after the course and where to apply

— Let's imagine a standard situation: a person has completed a course and wants help with employment. Where and how should they apply?

You can apply and get help with an internship or employment. At the start, the user is introduced to the employment program through the Career Center tab and a short video. All this is located in your personal account.

To receive help in finding a job, you need to complete the required tracks:

  • Enroll in the Career Development Center;
  • Submit an application in your personal account;
  • Send your resume for review;
  • Complete the program by submitting an application through your personal account.

After the user has left a request, they are contacted by contact center employees. You need to select the date and time of the initial consultation.

What help can you get?

— How does the Career Center help?

  • First career consultation.During this consultation, we clarify the candidate's goals. We check and discuss the compiled resume. We set career goals and discuss the steps to achieve them.
  • Search diary. After the first consultation, we create and send the user a "Search Diary." This diary contains useful information and steps that will help the candidate enter the labor market.

What's in the diary 👇

1. Links and examples with instructions for writing a resume and cover letter;

2. Guide to creating a profile in LinkedIn;

3. Materials for preparing for an interview: self-presentation and technical interview, sample questions;

4. Examples of archived test tasks;

5. List of sources for job search: job resources, Telegram channels, freelance exchanges;

6. Resources for determining and improving your English level.

After the first career consultation, the candidate makes edits to the resume, studies the information in the "Search Diary". Follows the recommendations of the career consultant, sends the resume and cover letter for review, finalizes the LinkedIn profile and creates a portfolio.

  • Second Career Consultation.Once the candidate has completed all the recommendations from the "Search Diary," they will have a second consultation. During this consultation, specialists will explain how to pass the interview. During the consultation, you can prepare for the real interview together with the developer and HR manager.

You don't have to wait for the scheduled consultation date. If the candidate found an internship or vacancy themselves and received an invitation to an interview, the consultation can be held earlier.

  • Career support.Regardless of the user's status: active or passive job search, internship, or full-time employment, it is located in the career support database. The candidate is assigned a career consultant who will support them on their path to employment.

Career Development Center Case

Andrey Bezrukov

Mogilev, Belarus

Completed courses: "Profession Graphic Designer"

Achievements:I became interested in graphic design back in 2011. Until 2018, I taught myself design: free courses, videos, and literature. I realized there was no career growth, despite having enough knowledge. The main goal of the courses was not to learn from scratch, but to get feedback and learn from the experience of professionals.

The Career Development Center (CDC) was an unexpected bonus for Andrey. Career consultant Daria Benkovskaya helped him rewrite his resume and present himself in a way that would be useful to companies. This is how Andrey achieved his main goal: he received many offers after updating his resume and grew from project work into a mentor.

— How many users who contact the Career Development Center find jobs or get interviews?

70-85% It's difficult to say the exact figure because people change their status. Also, candidates aren't always ready for internships and employment for various reasons. For example, a person doesn't want to complete long test assignments. In conditions of fierce competition, such candidates, unfortunately, are eliminated. There are plenty of applicants.

Advice for beginners

  • Do it.You can't give up under any circumstances. Even if you've been rejected 82 times, try again. Perhaps you need to brush up on your skills or find "your" company, which is hiding on the 83rd response. Remember that Walt Disney was fired from the newspaper because "he lacked imagination and had no good ideas."
  • Don't be afraid.Think about what you're afraid of. Fear of rejection? Even senior specialists get rejected. Fear of failure on your first job? Everyone has been there, and getting to know a new product and processes always takes time. Fears are unjustified. They only waste the candidate's time and nerves.
  • Ask for help. It doesn't matter whether you ask the Career Development Center or an IT specialist you know. Both can be effective.
