Is it worth "entering IT" in 2024. Expert advice
In today's world filled with digital technologies, choosing a profession in the IT sphere is becoming a strategic step. Even in a crisis, the digitalization of economies continues to develop, making IT specialists indispensable in various industries.
Career expert and career guidance specialist Ekaterina Borovets emphasizes that digitalization affects all spheres of life. And this guarantees a constant demand for qualified IT specialists, despite crises. She advises students and graduates to actively study, apply their knowledge in practice, create educational portfolios, and prepare for interviews:
"Why are all digital professions relevant today, despite the crisis? Because we are experiencing the digitalization of the economy. For example, the agricultural sector, it would seem, is far from digitalization, but even there they program drones that fly over fields. Or public schools. Remember how long ago digital diaries appeared. And new opportunities for children's education will continue to appear. And this means that the demand for IT specialists will only grow.
Yes, demand may be slightly lower during a crisis, but it will not disappear completely. It is the junior professionals who have the hardest time during times of crisis. But does this mean that you shouldn't study and try to change your life? Of course not. It means that you need to think through your career strategy in IT and prepare to find that very job.
And really study hard. After all, many people, even when buying paid courses, try to skim them in the hope that they will figure it out someday. But this scheme doesn't work. You need to take as much knowledge as you can and put it into practice. Build a portfolio, and ideally, while you're still studying, start looking for projects through connections and completing internships. Then, create a portfolio, a high-quality resume that's focused on career change, and prepare for interviews. You need to be 100%, or better yet, 120%, prepared to find a job or freelance project. And I sincerely believe that if you put in the effort, you'll get results."

The demand for IT professions is also confirmed by Skillbox marketing specialist Maria Tkacheva. Skillbox's programming courses are very popular despite the crisis.
— This field continues to develop, and many IT professions are reaching the top. Skillbox offers online training, where you can work on real cases and choose the right course, even if you've never programmed before,— Maria shares.— And for frontend developers, Python programmers, testers, and 1C developers, there is the opportunity to complete an internship at one of the HTP resident companies.
