The Imperial Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum, founded in 1811, became famous for educating the outstanding Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. However, this educational institution, which existed until 1843, trained not only Pushkin but also such famous figures as Delvig, Kuchelbecker, Pushchin, and Matyushkin. The Lyceum became an important training ground for the Russian intelligentsia, producing many educated young people, including future Decembrists. This historical fact underscores the Lyceum's importance in shaping Russia's cultural and political elite in the early 19th century.

While studying at the Lyceum, the students actively exchanged notes and wrote letters to their family and friends. Many of them kept diaries, and some later became authors of memoirs. These testimonies and recollections represent a valuable source of information about the lives and studies of the Lyceum's students. They provide a deeper understanding of the educational process and atmosphere of that time, and reveal the personal stories and experiences of the young people who shaped the future of the country.
