It should be noted that, as of the publication of this article in June 2025, the service has significantly reduced functionality for users opting for the free plan. Now, when worksheets are saved for printing, they are watermarked, making them difficult to use for their intended purpose.

Nevertheless, the free version of this service still offers a wide range of features. Users can create quizzes with a variety of question and answer formats, including voice input. Matching, drag-and-drop, and fill-in-the-blank tasks are also available, as well as the ability to generate arithmetic problems. Worksheet Zone can convert standard PDF files into interactive versions, and if time is short on content development, an AI assistant can help. Worksheets can be easily distributed to students without requiring registration. These materials are suitable for asynchronous use, such as homework, as well as for collaborative work in the classroom or online. When creating open-ended questions that require an answer, it's important to provide space for it in advance. Worksheet Zone provides the ability to create an interactive area where students can enter their answers. The same applies to "Match the Pairs" assignments: the teacher places the required images or their captions on the page, and Worksheet Zone determines which objects should be connected. Students can connect them using their mouse and receive feedback. All interactive elements are highlighted, eliminating the risk of students inattentively missing them.

The most convenient way to prepare documents is to use a presentation designer, such as PowerPoint. These tools provide the ability to freely arrange various elements on a slide, which is not possible in word processors such as Word. Once you've completed your presentation, you should export it as a PDF or save the images as JPG or PNG.

To effectively prepare your presentation, it's important to understand the interactive elements available in Worksheet Zone. These elements offer a wide range of options:

• A "Text Box" creates an interactive space on the page where the teacher must enter the correct answer to a given question. As students work through the material, they will encounter a blank area where they can enter their answer. The platform will then compare the entered answer with the correct one and provide the result.
• A "Multiple Choice" is a component of a test question where the teacher must select the correct answer. Each answer option has an interactive area overlaid on top of them, and the teacher indicates the correct answer, which may be one or more. As students select an answer, the color of this area changes.
• A "Check Box" functions similarly to a "Multiple Choice" but instead of highlighting the selected option, it marks it with a check mark. For this reason, it is advisable to place it next to answer options or, for example, on images.
• "Drop Down" is not the best translation, which means the ability to select an answer from a drop-down list. This element can be placed in empty spaces, for example, in tasks like "Fill in the blanks."
• The "Drag & Drop" function allows you to select an element on the page to move it and specify the target area where this element will be moved. In fact, a copy of the object occurs, which means that it remains in its original location.
• "Matching" is a function that creates pairs of interactive zones on objects. Students will need to use the mouse to connect them.
• "Word Search" is an interactive puzzle in which you need to find given words in a field consisting of letters. To begin, you need to prepare the puzzle in a document in advance, and then select the required number of rows and columns in the Worksheet Zone section. The service will then generate an interactive grid. Next, carefully overlay it on your worksheet, ensuring the lines align, and highlight the cells containing the target words. As you solve the puzzle, students will mark cells on the worksheet, and the system will check their actions. "Speak" is a feature that allows you to enter the answer verbally. You must pronounce the correct answer and specify the language in which it will be given (Russian is also available). After the student responds, the system will compare their spoken answer with the robot's speech in the selected language. "Audio" offers the ability to create listening tasks. Users can upload their MP3 files or convert text to speech using a special algorithm. Text-to-speech is available in multiple languages, including Russian.
• The "Link" element adds an interactive component to the page that contains a hyperlink. It's important to note that the text label or button used to activate the link must also be included in the document itself.

This approach can be useful for presenting theoretical information and quickly testing student comprehension through questions.

The first step in the toolbox is to select the "Create from Scratch" option. This will create a blank worksheet with spaces for the student's title, name, and class, which can be easily removed if needed. It's important to note that there's no limit to the number of pages in a single document.

All the functions needed to create a worksheet are located in the left-hand menu:

• The "Activities" section displays a list of pages, as well as a button for adding a new page. If you integrate relevant content created by another user into your worksheet (details on such content are provided below), this tab will open options for customizing the assignment or exercise.
• The "Templates" section includes various materials created by users of the Worksheet Zone platform and available for public use. Although there is a search function by format for easy sorting, the quality of these materials may vary, and there are no filters for selecting by language standards or assignment creation methods. For example, in the "Subtraction" category, you can find carefully designed templates created by other teachers using the Worksheet Zone designer, which you can then adapt in the "Activities" section for your students (for example, by changing the number range or the number of tasks, or adding instructions in Russian). However, this category also includes static images that cannot be customized and can only be used as is.
• The "Interactive Elements" feature allows you to add various fields and lines to the page where students can enter their answers. This approach is suitable for both printed assignments and electronic exercises with automated checking. If the teacher indicates the correct answer, the system can compare it with the students' answers.
• "Element" is a set of geometric shapes, lines, arrows, tables, and stickers designed for decorating worksheets. You can add text to shapes and tables, as well as label lines and arrows.
• "Text" allows you to insert text blocks onto pages. This application includes three preset styles for headings, subheadings, and the main content. Advanced customization options are also available, such as font selection, size and color adjustments, and the ability to change alignment, transparency, and character and line spacing.
• The "Upload" feature allows users to upload PDF files and images from their computers. Please note that the maximum file size for uploading is 5.5 MB. Uploaded documents are separated into individual pages, making it easier to select and arrange the desired elements on the worksheet pages.
• The "Background" feature allows you to select a color or image from the Worksheet Zone media library to decorate the page background. You can also set an uploaded image as a background: simply click on the image, then click the three dots in the menu that appears and select "Set image as background."
• The "Your Projects" section provides access to a list of the assets you have created. Selecting a specific asset will open it for editing, replacing the current one. Unfortunately, there is no way to combine worksheets, for example, to insert a previously developed crossword puzzle onto one of the pages.

Using the designer is straightforward. Text blocks, interactive elements, decorative details, and uploaded images can be easily moved to the desired position. Clicking on any of the placed objects will give you access to settings that allow you to change its size and shape, color, or layer placement.

Ways to Effectively Distribute Educational Materials Among Students

Once the material is prepared, click the red "Save" button in the upper right corner of the screen. Then, fill in the appropriate fields, specifying a name and description for the worksheet, and selecting the language, class, topic, or subject. Finally, click the blue "Publish" button at the bottom of the page to make the resource available to students.

You can access all saved resources by going to the "Home" page and selecting "My Worksheets" or by visiting the "My Library" page.

On the next page, where the two black buttons are, you can immediately click the icon representing three connected dots, which represents the "Share" function.

A menu will appear where you can copy the unique link to the worksheet and share it with students. You can also send the link to specified email addresses and configure access settings - make it publicly available via the link or restrict it to specific users registered with Worksheet Zone.

There is also the highest level of ability - to assign the material to students by clicking the "Assign" button. However, we will talk about this method a little later.

If an unregistered user goes to Worksheet Zone via the link, they will encounter a similar A page with black buttons. However, only the "Self-paced Learning" mode is available. This option is designed for self-monitoring and practice, with no strict deadlines or external monitoring. The user independently determines the number of questions they are willing to answer, can turn the timer on or off, chooses when to receive feedback—after each task or upon completion of all tasks—and decides whether to submit their results to the system.

To achieve a more structured learning process, alternative options can be considered. On the same page with black buttons (if you accidentally closed it, you can restore it by clicking on the desired worksheet in the "My Worksheets" section), you need to select the "Start Teaching Activities" option.

The new page presents six activity types, but only four are currently available.

• "Assign Homework" allows students to complete assignments and answer questions independently within a set time. In the settings, you can set a deadline, activate a timer for answers, specify the number of attempts, and more. Clicking the "Start" button will display a results window, but at this stage, we are only interested in the assignment link for students. This link can be sent to students or used as a QR code. If you plan to work with Worksheet Zone regularly, you'll find the universal link and unique six-digit code for each assignment helpful.

• "Classic Mode" is a format designed for synchronous learning. The teacher must schedule the activity in advance so that it starts at a set time, or they can launch it immediately. It is also important to invite students to participate using a link, QR code, or numeric code. Students can move independently from one task to the next. Available settings include a timer, the number of participants, the option to skip questions, and the ability to earn extra points for answering quickly. Additionally, you can set the end mode to depend on the first student completing all the tasks or when everyone has completed them. There is also the option to randomize the display of questions and answer options, and feedback can be configured to arrive after each question or at the end of the entire activity.
• "Instructor-Paced" is a synchronous format in which the teacher independently manages the transition between questions and tasks, setting the pace for students to complete them. Otherwise, this mode functions similarly to "Classic Mode."
• "Jeopardy" is a competitive game that can be organized in the classroom. Students are divided into groups (the desired number of teams can be set in the settings) and take turns answering randomly selected questions, earning points. Ultimately, the winning team is determined by the total points earned.

It should be noted that only quizzes can support all activity types. Materials in other formats, including arithmetic problems, crosswords, fill-in-the-blanks tasks, and worksheets developed from PDFs or created from scratch, can only be used for homework or in "Classic Mode."

It is worth noting that Worksheet Zone also provides a classroom management tool known as Class Management. If students create accounts on this platform, they can form groups, allowing them to distribute assignments and invite all participants to collaborate in real time. While this option is not suitable for Russian schools and colleges, it may be useful for those teaching adults.

Methods for Monitoring Student Progress

Worksheet Zone tracks all student interactions with educational materials and compiles the results in the "Reports" tab. This page allows you to filter data by various criteria, such as date, activity type, status (e.g., completed and active assignments), and grade.

The reports contain extensive information. The general summary presents average scores and the time spent by students on the assignment, as well as the distribution of grades. The system highlights difficult questions and assignments that only a small number of students completed. An AI assistant, analyzing student responses, helps identify topics that need to be reviewed. Additionally, this page lists the names of those students who started the assignment but did not complete it. On the adjacent tabs, you can find detailed reports on each student's results and how they answered individual questions.

Unique links also are created for these reports. This way, you can, for example, pass them on to your parents if you wish.
