Find out moreTrends of the year in pedagogical innovation
Every year, a team of researchers from the Institute of Educational Technology at the Open University in the UK publishes a report entitled Innovative Pedagogy. This report is a collection of educational trends that are influencing the field of education, but have not yet found widespread application. In turn, the Institute of Education at the National Research University Higher School of Economics conducts surveys among Russian experts, students, and schoolchildren to find out which of the ten identified global trends have already been implemented in Russia, which have potential for development, and which are less relevant for the domestic education system. This interaction between international and domestic research helps identify relevant areas for improving education in Russia and adapting global experience.
We have identified the five most popular trends that received the maximum number of votes. The infographic illustrates these trends. You can find more detailed information on the global trends identified by the British university in our previous article.
Last year, the top 5 trends were completely different. Now we can summarize and assess whether these trends will continue to develop in 2022. This allows us to better understand how user preferences and interests are changing, as well as which trends will be relevant in the future. Analyzing changes in trends helps us identify key points and determine which ones have become fundamental for the current year.

What are corporate universities?
Corporate universities are often perceived as mysterious structures, and some consider them to be just a modern name for standard Business training centers. Some are completely unfamiliar with the concept. Nevertheless, corporate universities, which emerged in the 1990s and have rapidly developed in recent decades, are becoming a significant element of adult education. They play a key role in driving innovation in both business and education, providing companies with the opportunity to develop employee skills and adapt to market changes.
Until recently, analysis of corporate universities in Russia was limited. In 2022, the Publishing House of the Higher School of Economics published the first reference and analytical publication on this topic, "Corporate Universities of Russia - 2022." The book was edited by Valery Katkalo, Director of the HSE Graduate School of Business, and Natalia Shumkova, Deputy Director for Corporate Training. This publication marks a significant step in researching and understanding the structure of corporate learning in Russia, providing valuable data and insights for education and business professionals.
Data for this study was collected in May-June 2022 using a survey. Forty-four heads of corporate universities from companies included in the Expert 200 rating participated. Respondents answered questions regarding their educational programs, target audience, budget, organizational structure, and key performance indicators for 2021. Even the general data presented in the infographic below demonstrates the significance of this segment.
Kommersant recently released a new supplement called "Corporate Universities." This supplement features interviews with heads of corporate universities who share their experiences and approaches to developing educational programs within companies. These interviews highlight important aspects of the creation and operation of corporate universities, as well as their role in employee development and improving business processes.

How many Russians study English and why they need it
Direction "English language" in Skillbox, in collaboration with the VK research team, conducted a study to determine how and why Russians learn English. The survey included 1,200 respondents aged 18 and older from across the country. Among those who had ever studied or were currently studying English, only 6% rated their skills as "fluent." A third of respondents (33%) admitted to having only a superficial knowledge of the language, while 24% had only written skills and struggled with listening and conversational skills. The most common difficulties faced by respondents included a lack of speaking practice (21%) and problems memorizing words, grammatical structures, and various forms (21%). This underscores the importance of practical use of the language and quality preparation for successful English learning.
A study conducted by the Higher School of Economics found that only 7% of Russian university students have a high level of English proficiency. This indicator indicates the need to improve students' language skills, which is an important aspect for their successful career and integration into the international community.

How is advanced training related? The recruiting platform SuperJob conducted a study among economically active users to find out which skills they were focusing on in 2022. Survey participants were asked about developing professional skills (hard skills) and social interaction skills (soft skills). The results showed that 25% of respondents focused on professional skills, while 12% worked on social skills. The proportion of those developing soft skills was especially high among young people under 34—16%. Among people over 45, this figure was only 10%. No differences were found in hard skills by age, but a significant correlation was observed in the context of income level: respondents with high incomes were more likely to actively develop their professional skills. This trend underscores the importance of investing in self-development and professional growth to achieve career goals.
