In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the number of intact families with one child choosing vocational education for their only child. These families are typically well-off and strive to provide their child with a quality education and future prospects. Thus, colleges are becoming increasingly attractive to successful children who want to gain the practical skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the interest of high school students in vocational education. According to data from last year, 30% of 11th-grade graduates decide to choose blue-collar jobs. This trend underscores the importance of vocational education in today's environment, when young people strive to obtain qualifications in demand in the labor market. Given market dynamics and employer needs, secondary vocational education offers graduates the opportunity not only to quickly integrate into the workforce but also to build a successful career.

A press conference was held on April 13th to celebrate the release of the anniversary navigator for applicants to Russian secondary vocational education institutions (SVE). This navigator has been in development since 2012 and has become an important tool for admission to educational institutions. The event discussed its features, updates, and significance for prospective students, emphasizing the navigator's role in simplifying the process of choosing a profession and an educational institution.

Participants noted that significant changes are taking place in the field of secondary vocational education (SVE). College infrastructure is being transformed, turning them into modern and promising educational institutions. The introduction of a professionalism experiment is aimed at adapting specialist training to labor market demands. Changes in the student body are also being observed. According to observations, the decision to choose specialized vocational education (SVE) for a child is increasingly being made not at the time of school graduation or due to poor Unified State Exam (USE) results, but in advance and consciously. Interest in this educational path is growing, and the negative perception of such a choice as unsuccessful is gradually decreasing. While ten years ago, only 7% of parents of children aged three to six stated that their child would attend SVE, by 2021 this figure had more than doubled, reaching almost 18%. This indicates a growing recognition of the value of vocational education and changing views on career paths.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of affluent families with one child choosing secondary vocational education (SVE). About 20% of college students come from families that could afford a paid higher education. Nevertheless, these parents consciously choose secondary vocational education, which may indicate a desire for practical skills and earlier entry into the labor market. This choice may be driven by a desire to provide their child with a more focused education that meets current market demands.

The secondary vocational education system has two main areas: the training of mid-level specialists and the training of skilled workers and employees. The first area attracts particular attention, as it is in demand in the labor market. As Irina Seliverstova noted, the ratio of applicants to these areas is approximately 80:20. This trend is consistent with international trends in vocational education. It is important to consider that growing interest in the training of mid-level specialists can contribute to improving the quality of professional personnel.

Most students choose to enter college after the ninth grade. Last academic year, 76% of applicants began their college education after the ninth grade, and 24% after the eleventh. Relative to the number of eleventh-grade graduates, approximately one-third of them go on to college. This demonstrates the popularity of college as an educational path for young people.

A recent study of the educational and career trajectories of students in secondary vocational education (SVE), conducted as part of the HSE Monitoring the Markets and Organizations of Education, revealed interesting trends. Most students view SVE as an intermediate step on the path to higher education, striving for a more prestigious and promising profession. According to the data, 61% of college applicants plan to continue their education at universities, and almost half of them (49%) successfully realize their intentions within a few years after graduating. However, it is worth noting that one of the significant advantages of SVE is the opportunity to enter the labor market more quickly, allowing students to combine work and study. This gives them the opportunity not only to gain practical experience but also financial independence, which is especially important in today's environment.
