Find out moreInteractive technologies in business: an inside look
Anatoly, please share how you started your career in this rapidly developing industry?
My conscious path in entrepreneurship began in 2015, when I met the team, which I continue to work. Our group includes Marianna Alpatova, co-founder and CTO. Together, we develop projects in augmented reality and interactive technologies, as well as implement neural networks. We focus on gamification to provide users with engaging and memorable experiences. Our business is focused on two main areas. The first area includes outsourced content development for companies. We create interactive applications suitable for marketing, visualization of events, exhibitions and concerts, as well as for museums. These solutions help our clients effectively engage with audiences and improve user experience. The second area is the Magic Kids project. This is an educational game for children that uses augmented reality (AR) and voice recognition technologies. These innovative technologies make the learning process more engaging and interactive, promoting the development of skills and knowledge in children through play. Magic Kids helps children master new topics by actively engaging them in learning and creating engaging scenarios for exploration.
Augmented reality (AR) became the foundation for my startups for several reasons. First, AR offers unique opportunities for user interaction with the world around them, opening up new horizons for business. This technology allows for the integration of digital information into the real world, creating engaging and interactive experiences. Second, the AR market is rapidly growing, creating enormous potential for innovative solutions and startups across industries ranging from education to entertainment. Third, AR improves efficiency and productivity by allowing users to access the information they need at the right time. Thus, augmented reality is a strategically important tool for creating competitive and in-demand products.
In the context of Magic Kids AR, it is important to use this technology only when necessary, as the user experience (UX) has not yet reached full maturity. Nevertheless, we are confident that augmented reality (AR) is the interface of the future. We live in an era of flat user interfaces on screens, but the concept of phygitalism—the combination of physical and digital interaction—opens up new horizons. As technology advances and becomes more accessible, user experience will undergo significant changes. Currently, AR is primarily used for marketing and creating striking visual impressions, but in the future, it is expected to become a mainstream technology capable of radically changing user experience.
Our team previously developed the furniture marketplace Faradise, but we subsequently decided to change direction. We are currently considering returning to this project, as we see potential in this niche. We are carefully analyzing the market and user needs to make an informed decision about the future of Faradise.
Currently, the question of creating a marketplace remains open. Launching such a project from scratch requires significant resources and time, making it more profitable for larger companies such as IKEA or Hoff. Key aspects of a successful marketplace are attracting non-competitive traffic and minimizing customer acquisition costs. While optimizing these processes is challenging, the idea of creating a marketplace remains promising and could open up new business opportunities in the future.
Your business operates in two countries. How have you organized this process?
In the US, we have a business development team actively working on the Magic Kids project. Meanwhile, our studio in Russia focuses on development and sales. Additionally, a number of developers work from Belarus, which provides us with access to talented specialists and expands our team's capabilities.
In addition to my role as co-founder, I perform several key functions within the company. I am responsible for strategic planning and business development, as well as team management. My job is to coordinate the work of various departments, which allows us to achieve our goals and improve the company's overall performance. I also analyze market trends and customer needs, which helps us adapt our products and services to current requirements.
I'm actively involved in all processes at our company. We have many areas, including production, marketing, sales, and investment raising. I'm like a torchlight illuminating various tasks. For example, I might be actively involved in product development with the team, then switch to marketing or fundraising. Regular communication with each team member once a month allows me to stay on top of all the nuances and respond promptly to changes. This promotes more effective collaboration and the achievement of shared goals.
Do you have a large team?
Our team has 19 employees registered on Slack. Interestingly, most of them work part-time and specialize in outsourcing in areas such as development, 3D design, and UI design. This allows us to flexibly respond to customer needs and provide high quality services.

Innovative game-based learning with Magic Kids
The Magic Kids startup arose not only in response to The challenges of the pandemic, but also as a result of a thorough analysis of the needs in the education and entertainment sectors, led us to identify a unique opportunity to integrate game mechanics with educational methods, effectively developing children's skills. Our goal is to create a platform that combines learning and play, providing children with an engaging and educational experience. Magic Kids strives to change the approach to learning, making it accessible and interesting for every family.
When searching for startup ideas, we identified three key areas: e-commerce, education, and gaming. After a thorough market analysis, we concluded that game-based learning, especially in the children's segment, has significant potential due to the use of interactive technologies. Game-based learning methods not only make the learning process more engaging but also promote better assimilation of material. With growing interest in innovative educational solutions, startups focused on developing game-based educational platforms can gain a strong position in the market.
To create high-quality lessons, we engaged leading experts. Initially, we collaborated with domestic specialists, but soon realized the need to collaborate with local educators to successfully enter the American market. Our team now includes 28 passionate teachers, as well as an experienced educational designer, Natalia, who works in Chile. We strive to provide our students with the best educational practices, taking into account international experience and local specifics. Our app offers lessons in four main areas: mathematics, logic, language, and the world around us. Each task is carefully reviewed and refined based on expert feedback, ensuring high-quality educational content and promoting effective learning. We strive to provide users with relevant and practical knowledge, making our app the ideal tool for skill development and preparation for school.
We leveraged the Starta Ventures accelerator and LinkedIn to find qualified teachers, significantly simplifying the networking process and enhancing the quality of interactions with education professionals.
Magic Kids is designed for children aged 4 to 8 and uses augmented reality (AR) technology to create an engaging educational experience. Children can customize and control their characters, making learning interactive and engaging. Future plans include introducing a multiplayer mode, allowing children to interact with each other, further enhancing engagement and communication. Magic Kids is the ideal solution for parents looking to make their children's learning more engaging and modern.
During focus testing of our application, certain shortcomings were identified. In the next update, we will change the distribution of content, making it equal: 50% will be presented in the 3D world, and the remaining 50% in augmented reality. Augmented reality will not become the main element, but will serve as an interesting addition, improving user interaction with the application.
Our app uses a subscription model for monetization, offering users a one-week free trial. We are actively exploring various pricing strategies, including a $2 offer for the first month and $10 for subsequent months. This allows us to attract new users and give them the opportunity to experience the benefits of our app before committing to a subscription.
We recognize the importance of monitoring the time children spend on screens. Our app has a limit of 15 minutes of screen time. After this time, a "scenario night" is activated, during which the child will be able to freely explore the virtual world, but will not be able to interact with it. This helps maintain a balance between technology use and real time spent away from the screen, promoting healthier child development.
When discussing gadget addiction, it is important to note that attempts to limit children's technology use are often ineffective. Modern technology continues to evolve, and our children need gadgets to successfully interact with the future. This is an inevitable process that should not be perceived with fear. Instead of bans, it is worth considering the possibility of forming healthy habits in children using technology, which will allow them to adapt to a rapidly changing world.
There is an opinion that smartphone addiction is increasing among both teenagers and adults. This trend may be due to the fact that the world of technology does not have many attractive alternatives that can attract users' attention. It is important to consider how the diversity of digital solutions can change the perception of technology and reduce dependence on mobile devices.
Advantages of the Apple platform for developers
Our app is available only on iOS for several reasons. Firstly, we strive to ensure maximum quality and stability of the app, which is easier to achieve on the iOS platform due to its limited number of devices. Secondly, iOS offers a more secure environment for users, which is a priority for us. We are also considering expanding to other platforms in the future, but for now we are focusing on iOS to provide the best experience for our users.
Let's consider several key factors. First, our platform's core audience is users in the US, where iOS devices hold a significant market share. This makes iOS an important segment for our strategy. We must take into account the preferences of this audience to effectively tailor our content and offerings. Optimizing for iOS users will allow us to increase engagement and improve the user experience.
The Android ecosystem covers a wide range of devices with different technical specifications, making testing apps like Magic Kids on all models extremely challenging. In contrast, Apple devices offer unified standards, which significantly simplifies the development and testing process. Additionally, augmented reality (AR) technologies on the iOS platform demonstrate higher performance thanks to well-optimized software and hardware. This makes iOS a more attractive platform for developers who strive to ensure maximum performance and stability of their apps.
We are considering releasing the application on the Google Play platform. Our team is actively working on development to provide users with convenient access to our services. We understand the importance of being present on this platform and strive to offer a quality product that will meet the needs of users. Stay tuned for updates to not miss the release announcement.
We specialize in developing custom mobile applications for Google Play. We currently do not have an Android version of the Magic Kids application. However, in the future, when we begin to enter the Latin American market, we will definitely consider the possibility of creating an Android version of this application.
The future of the Magic Kids project in our country depends on several factors, including the high prices of Apple products. In educational institutions, the implementation of Magic Kids technologies can be an important step towards modernizing the educational process. Apple products, despite their cost, offer high functionality and quality, making them attractive for educational programs.
However, to successfully integrate Magic Kids into schools, it is necessary to consider more affordable solutions and alternatives. It is important to emphasize that educational technologies must not only be effective but also affordable for institutions.
Cost optimization and finding funding partners may be key to Magic Kids' development. Given the growing interest in innovative teaching methods and digital skills, the project has every chance of successful implementation and development in the educational sector.
Currently, our application is targeted at the Western market and is focused exclusively on the B2C segment. We are exploring the possibility of implementing it in educational institutions, but are currently focused on other priorities. It is important to note that each country has unique standards and approaches to integrating new educational programs. For example, in Russia, the Ministry of Education is responsible for implementation, while in the US, schools make purchasing decisions based on their needs and available grants.
The chances of schools expressing interest in purchasing such projects depend on several factors. First, it is necessary to consider the relevance and significance of the proposed solutions for the educational process. If a project demonstrates clear benefits in improving the quality of education, student engagement, or optimizing the learning process, this significantly increases the likelihood of its adoption. Secondly, it is important to analyze the needs of specific educational institutions and adapt the project to their requirements. Successful cases and positive feedback from other schools can also play a decisive role in the procurement decision. In general, if a project meets modern requirements and offers solutions to current educational problems, its chances of being in demand in schools will be high.
The effectiveness of educational platforms depends on the specifics of each specific project. For example, the Russian platform "Uchi.ru" is active not only in Russia but also abroad. It has shown positive results in the United States, despite the existing challenges and difficulties associated with the local market and educational system.
Tips for aspiring AR developers
As an expert in augmented reality (AR), I want to share my recommendations for developers looking to start a career in this rapidly developing field. It is important to understand the key trends and technologies shaping the AR market. Developers should explore AR content creation platforms such as ARKit and ARCore, as well as programming languages such as Swift and Java. It's also helpful to understand the basics of 3D modeling and design to create high-quality interactive elements. Participating in AR communities and forums will not only allow you to share experiences but also stay up-to-date on the latest developments and best practices. Having a portfolio with examples of AR projects and experiments will help attract the attention of employers and clients. Investing time in learning and experimenting with new technologies will open up numerous opportunities in the field of augmented reality.
It's important to understand that implementing AR technologies does not guarantee the success of your app. While augmented reality can add unique elements to a product, it shouldn't be its only advantage. Instagram masks and filters are a good example of this, as they have gained popularity because they complement, rather than replace, core functionality. It's important to remember that AR is a tool aimed at improving the user experience, not an end in itself. The success of an app depends on a holistic approach to its development and careful attention to user needs.
The second piece of advice is to carefully study the practical applications of augmented reality (AR). Many educational projects have been implemented using AR, but not all have been successful. For example, the ability to place a virtual object on a table and interact with it may seem interesting, but this is not enough to attract users. Practical applications of AR, such as planning furniture arrangements in an interior, may be more in demand. It is also important to develop effective strategies for promoting such solutions, for example, offering furniture companies plugins using AR technology, which will help them improve the customer experience and increase sales.
Remember the importance of mutual interests and collaboration. We invite you to collaborate on the creation of innovative AR products. Together we can achieve significant results and offer unique solutions in the field of augmented reality.
