The Cold War is over, but the problems are not going away If the number six in the game's title makes you uneasy, don't worry: Black Ops 6 offers a self-contained story that can be understood with just a knowledge of the events of Cold War. The story takes place in the early 1990s, when the Cold War has ended and the world has become somewhat calmer, but conflicts on the global stage still rage. Chief among these is the Gulf War, which in many ways symbolizes the unity of the United States and the USSR. Black Ops 6 offers a fascinating look at these historical events and their consequences.

A team of undercover operatives from Cold War finds themselves without a job, and Russell Adler, who is responsible for capturing Perseus, the villain of the previous game, suddenly disappears. The authorities begin a manhunt for him, suspecting him of collaborating with drug lord Raul Menendez. However, this state of affairs doesn't last long.

During an operation in the Persian Gulf, a CIA team is tasked with capturing the Iraqi Minister of Defense and delivering him to the United States. However, the mission encounters unexpected complications. A mysterious military group, "Pantheon," unexpectedly appears on the battlefield, seeking to intercept the minister for unknown reasons. Just before the extraction, Russell Adler appears out of nowhere and eliminates the target without explanation.

The Central Intelligence Agency is dissatisfied with the group's performance. Leadership decides to suspend it from missions, suspecting it of collusion with Adler. Adler himself is detained, but before his arrest, he manages to inform the heroes of his hideout—a villa in Bulgaria, beneath which lies an abandoned KGB bunker. This bunker contains information that could shed light on the current situation and reveal the true circumstances of what is happening.

The covert location reveals many fascinating details to the heroes. From Adler's notes, it becomes clear that Pantheon is not just another militaristic group, but an organization with ties to the CIA. It is currently preparing to release a devastating weapon capable of causing a conflict more serious than the Cold War. The team must unravel a complex web of events and uncover a potential nation-state conspiracy that could change the course of history.

The game's exposition is just as convoluted as our retelling. The writers strive to quickly immerse the player in the conflict, resulting in a multitude of elements within 15 minutes: potential moles within the CIA, the Pantheon organization, and Adler's mysterious role. This approach can hinder understanding and engagement, as the player must quickly adapt to the complex narrative structure.

The game underemphasizes more important characters. For example, Troy Marshall, who is promoted as the main character in promotional materials (he's featured on the cover of Black Ops 6), is actually more of a supporting character. His role is limited to sending the unnamed protagonist on missions and sharing his memories of the past. Functionally, his tasks could be fulfilled by other characters, which calls into question his significance in the story. Compared to charismatic characters like Woods and Adler, Marshall seems extremely bland, and his place in the game remains unclear.

If you're not yet familiar with Black Ops 2, which will celebrate its 12th anniversary in 2024, you'll likely have a lot of questions. What happened to the key characters from Cold War, and how did Woods end up in a wheelchair? You'll either need to play through this classic game or pay close attention to the characters' dialogue, which will provide answers as the story unfolds. Black Ops 2 offers a unique experience that reveals many secrets and connects the events of various games in the Call of Duty universe.

And there was talk...

Raven Software once again begins its story with an intriguing mystery, which, according to the developers, should capture players' attention until the very end. This promise was also emphasized by an ambitious advertising campaign. The writers emphasize the fact that in the world of Black Ops, no one can be trusted, which is reflected in the lengthy slogan "The truth lies." Elements of distrust and uncertainty create an atmosphere of tension, forcing players to constantly question the motives of the characters and the unfolding events.

Unfortunately, the promising teasers conceal a rather simple plot in Black Ops 6. The antagonist "Pantheon" remains in the shadows for a long time, and its role in the story is minimal. Players are not given any insight into the group's plans or motivations. Moreover, the only mention of the Pantheon's hostile nature is Adler's expositional monologue at the beginning of the game. This lack of depth in the antagonist's development makes the story less engaging and prevents players from fully immersing themselves in the world of conflict.

It's unclear why these characters are perceived as a serious threat. They are often billed as "bad guys," but in the first hours of gameplay, they don't do anything truly terrifying. As players begin to unravel the web of mysteries that characterizes the Black Ops sub-series, it becomes apparent that the key plot twists are fairly predictable, popping up unexpectedly and failing to significantly alter the overall understanding of the core conflict.

One of the central mysteries of the plot lies in the identity of the protagonist. The player-controlled character, as in Cold War, remains a nameless soldier, referred to by the short codename "Case." If you're familiar with the plot of the previous game, you'll recognize that this mysterious introduction may conceal an unusual plot decision that plays a key role in the main plot. Unraveling the protagonist's identity can be an important plot twist and add depth to the overall story.

By choosing a similar structure, Raven decided to grab the audience's attention by hinting at a future plot twist. In some early scenes, the character's vision is impaired, indicating his unstable state. This is indeed true. The plot centers on a case related to [CLASSIFIED] within the CIA, who was one of the few who [CLASSIFIED]. However, unlike Cold War, this discovery does not affect the main plot, and, in fact, removing these details would hardly affect the game's quality.

After finishing Cold War, I had a strong feeling that I had been deceived. So I closely followed the development of the plot of Black Ops 6, waiting for the writers to try to confuse me again. This element of suspense is enhanced by the overall tone of the game. The main characters spend most of their time together in a secret KGB bunker that holds many secrets. Throughout the game, companions regularly remind the player: "Trust no one." However, unfortunately, the writers failed to live up to the created atmosphere of mystery.

The game deserves attention: in places where the scriptwriters were insufficient, the game designers did everything possible. The story associated with the KGB bunker is an optional game objective. The player can, at their own discretion, discover the bunker, open it, and learn interesting details. Each stage of this process is accompanied by an exciting and simple puzzle, which makes the game even more exciting.

The events of the game are truly captivating and interesting to watch. During their short adventure, which can be completed in just seven hours, the heroes will visit a variety of locations: from snowy Vorkuta to luxurious casinos and a secret CIA laboratory. The fast pace and constant change of scenery will not allow the player to get bored. If you consider the plot of the game as a typical action movie without deep pretensions, then the game will provide a lot of positive emotions and will not disappoint.

In Black Ops 6, the storyline is closely connected with the events of the first and second parts of the game. Unlike Cold War, which was perceived as a spin-off with guest stars, Black Ops 6 places an emphasis on references to previous games. The writers made a wise decision not to overload the story with unnecessary information, which makes the game more accessible to new players while delighting longtime fans of the franchise. Familiar characters are mentioned several times, such as Raul Menendez, who is implied to have had a connection with Adler. Also, the bunker where the heroes rest between missions has a significant connection to a key character from the sub-series, adding depth to the story and creating a connection to the previous games.

Perhaps even too rich

The kaleidoscope of diverse locations presents a great opportunity to refresh the gameplay, and the game designers made the most of this approach. Black Ops 6 is becoming one of the most action-packed games in the Call of Duty series. This project successfully combines elements of stealth, sabotage, psychedelic horror, and exciting shootouts with [CLASSIFIED] in an experimental lab. Furthermore, it features open-world missions, adding uniqueness to each game. Each mission offers new experiences, providing players with a varied and engaging experience.Black Ops 6 features a distinctive design approach, evident in the first full mission. Instead of traditional shootouts in tight corridors, the player is tasked with eliminating a key target as stealthily as possible. While Black Ops 6 may seem simple compared to other stealth games, it offers numerous tools that encourage player attentiveness and adaptability. There are various ways to reach your objective: underwater, through the front door, or using discreet scaffolding, adding variety and strategy to the gameplay.

If the character is spotted, the player has the opportunity to quickly eliminate the enemy silently or use distracting beeping grenades. After that, the game designers continue to develop this gameplay concept, introducing the player to the map of a new location, which they must stealthily infiltrate. This approach to systemic gameplay with an emphasis on strategic planning is not what is traditionally expected from the Call of Duty series.

The game impresses not so much with its variety as with its high-quality game design. Call of Duty is once again trying to move beyond the monotonous corridor shooter. Similar missions were featured in Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, but the game designers made mistakes in key aspects. Enemies reacted too quickly to the player's actions, and the interface did not provide sufficient information about the detection status. Furthermore, gameplay situations were poorly designed, making player planning unengaging. As a result, despite efforts to diversify gameplay, flaws in level design and enemy interaction mechanics detract from the overall experience. Improving the gaming experience requires taking player feedback into account and making changes that will create a more immersive and engaging atmosphere. In Black Ops 6, the developers addressed all of these previous shortcomings while maintaining the game's accessibility for a wide audience. Missions in the game have become more understandable and intuitive, allowing players to enjoy the gameplay without unnecessary stress. This approach provides a harmonious combination of engaging gameplay and accessibility, which makes Black Ops 6 attractive to both new players and series veterans.

The phrase "open world in CoD" may scare someone The game begins with an unusual episode for the series, which is no coincidence. The designers set expectations for a shooter and suggest that a straightforward approach isn't always the only option. A calmer tactic can be more effective and straightforward than aggressive actions. Furthermore, safes containing cash are periodically found throughout the game. By finding a code near them, players can significantly increase their funds and invest them in character development in the hub, where they return after each mission. This creates additional opportunities for strategy and interaction with the game world, emphasizing the importance of research and thoughtful planning.

The shooter features a simple yet effective leveling system. Unlike many modern games, where progression offers minor bonuses, such as "plus 5% damage," Black Ops 6 provides players with generous rewards. Some upgrades significantly strengthen the character, for example, doubling health, while others provide unique effects. One perk, for example, increases the character's speed when taking damage, which adds an interesting strategic element to the gameplay.

This approach not only effectively motivates players to improve their skills but also highlights the uniqueness of the game. Black Ops 6 is not a standard story about an ordinary soldier, but a dynamic action movie about a hero who overcomes all obstacles in his path. When it comes to firefights, the player feels more confident compared to other parts of the series. Armor allows players to withstand multiple bullets, while acquired power-ups allow for quick movement, reloading, and accurate shooting. This makes gameplay more immersive and realistic, giving players the opportunity to demonstrate their strategic skills and tactical thinking. The Omnimovement movement system is a key innovation in Black Ops 6, significantly improving gameplay. Characters can now move freely in any direction, not just forward as in previous versions. This mechanic is especially evident in multiplayer, where players can demonstrate their agility and tactical skills. However, even in the single-player campaign, it creates exciting scenes with dynamic shooting and spectacular 180-degree flips in the air, adding a cinematic feel and tension to the game.

To offset the main character's strength, the game periodically introduces elite enemies—mini-bosses—on the battlefield. These enemies are significantly more durable and deal more damage than regular opponents. To avoid wasting ammo, it's worth taking advantage of the game's diverse arsenal of equipment. Players almost always have access to RC-XD radio-controlled cars packed with explosives, as well as detonable, in-flight blades—a prime example of the Call of Duty style. An adrenaline shot is also a great option, slowing enemies and making the character incredibly fast. Comparisons to Max Payne become apparent in moments when speed and tactical options are crucial.

Unique equipment and impressive upgrades, coupled with excellent impact, make shootouts exciting until the very end. Moreover, thanks to the incredible variety of gameplay situations, traditional shooter moments feel less significant – they only take up about 20 percent of the gameplay time. However, this is not a drawback. Games that leave you wanting more after finishing are a real find in the modern world. Moreover, the thoughtful design stimulates this desire: various skins for multiplayer are available in the story campaign, and some episodes can be completed in several ways, which adds replayability and variety to the gameplay.

In one of the first missions, the player must obtain a retinal scan of a senator at a political event. Three potential assistants are available to achieve this goal: the senator's wife, with whom he recently had a falling out, a mysterious man spotted before the operation began, and a criminal suspected of being involved in corruption schemes with politicians. Each of these options offers unique opportunities, but also comes with high risks.

Black Ops 6 offers a variety of engaging gameplay situations that immerse players in the captivating world of the shooter. Discussing gameplay features should be done with caution, as any description could be a spoiler. Since the game is full of vibrant episodes, it's worth maintaining the intrigue and not revealing all the secrets.

Every moment in Black Ops 6 has the potential to surprise and delight, guaranteeing players unique experiences and unpredictable plot twists. This game will be a true test for fans of dynamic shooters, offering not only high-quality gameplay but also deep elaboration of every element.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 features a gripping and relevant story campaign that returns to the high standards of the series. While the quality of previous games has declined somewhat, Raven Software once again raises the bar, bringing the gameplay closer to the levels of the early 2010s. Black Ops 6 offers players a dynamic and engaging experience filled with unexpected twists. However, the script needs to be refined to make it even more engaging and memorable.
