"Photo Project 'Picking Up Pieces': Walking Your Dog as Art"

Contents:

Walking as an art form is a practice where movement becomes a method of exploring both the surrounding world and one's self. Artists, by closely observing the surrounding reality, are able to discover the surprising in ordinary things and rethink their interactions with nature. Tatyana Mishchenko's photography project grows out of such walks. She uses a smartphone to take photographs and then assembles the images from these journeys into digital collages. Each of these collages reflects a unique "route."

An artist working in various disciplines, Tatiana uses such techniques as photography, digital collage, drawing, and ceramics in her work. Her artistic practice is based on careful observation of surrounding objects, which, over time, reveal their inner content. She has taken part in group exhibitions in Russia, Belarus, the USA, Italy, and other countries. Tatyana has won both Russian and international photo competitions.

When a dog appeared in my life, I became acquainted with the practice known as walking art, which radically changed my view of the world around me.

At first, my outings with the dog were unconscious and They happened out of necessity, but over time they evolved into a way to gain a deeper understanding of the surrounding urban landscape and the neighboring forests. It's no longer just a matter of moving, but a whole process of exploration, where the dog's paws and my own feet serve as tools for understanding the terrain.

I began to perceive the landscape not just as a static environment, but as a dynamic, multi-layered text created by time, nature, and human activity. Consciously choosing my path, I immersed myself in the study of nature, focusing on those aspects that were of particular importance to me.

The way to understand space was not its conquest, but a careful immersion in its essence: the rejection of preconceived opinions, the willingness to perceive pure emotions, openness to new meanings and feelings arising at the intersection of my inner world with the surrounding reality.

Each of these walks took on the character of an exploratory expedition both within myself and into the surrounding world. Movement in space became a symbol and a means for exploring internal boundaries. Outdoor landscapes became a kind of map of my personal experiences.

A dog, a silent companion unburdened by words, became the key to reflective attention for me. Her neutral presence created an atmosphere of silence in which echoes of my self resonated with renewed vigor. This facilitated the revelation of the "still unconscious"—those deep layers of experiences and emotions that remained dormant beneath the weight of everyday life.

The collage technique is not just a random choice, but a holistic way to express my reflections on my experiences. By collecting various elements from photographs, I actually create a new narrative. My story is conveyed not through text, but through vivid visual images.

The first perception of a location is recorded in our consciousness, turning into an element of the internal archive of experience. Later, during the process of creating collages, a secondary understanding occurs: I analyze my emotions and experiences, breaking them down into symbols to reassemble them. This is no longer just a fleeting sensation, but a deeply meaningful result. New narratives emerging from the creation of collages enrich the practice of walking art, opening new horizons of attention for future walks.

Thus, walking the dog is transformed from an elementary physical need into a deeper existential and artistic practice. It becomes a continuous conversation between body, consciousness, the animal, and the surrounding reality. Every step becomes a ritual of coexistence with space.
