"Street of Sleep"

Period: April 24 – November 16.
Where: GES-2, Moscow
GES-2 is hosting a large-scale solo exhibition by Olga Chernysheva, which is a fascinating journey between reality and sleep – or perhaps even a dream.
The exhibition presents the artist’s works, created over different years, which are not united by theme or series, but are united by a common emotional background. Formally, the exhibition is divided into several sections, but they are all interconnected and create a holistic artistic world. The exhibition space is also organized in such a way that the viewer can move freely, rather than follow a strictly defined route from one work to another, with a minimum of explanations. Artworks are not only displayed on walls, but also hover in the air and appear on horizontal surfaces.
Olga Chernysheva is a Russian artist who uses a variety of artistic media, including video, photography, installation, and drawing. She has participated in the Venice Biennale, as well as in numerous exhibitions both in Russia and abroad.
"The Evolution of Photographic Art: From Daguerreotype to AI"

From July 15 to October 5.
Venue: Manege Central Exhibition Hall, St. Petersburg.
An exhibition spanning two centuries of the evolution of photographic art.
The exhibition is organized so that visitors can move freely among works reflecting crucial moments in the history of photography. This journey begins with the first daguerreotypes, which appeared in the late 1830s. Then, the era of pictorialism unfolds before us, followed by the Soviet avant-garde, socialist realism, and Russian nonconformists. Finally, we arrive in the 2020s, when the focus is on photographs created using artificial intelligence technologies.
The exhibition features 600 works by 178 artists. Among them are such famous names as Louis Daguerre, El Lissitzky, Alexander Rodchenko and Vlad Mamyshev-Monroe.

«Tones of Ecotone»

When: Until July 19th
Where: FOAM, Amsterdam
An ecotone is an area located on the border between two ecosystems, such as a seashore. Artists Finn Mayatitta and Jerrold Saja create an exhibition space that functions as such a borderland. Both artists, originally from the Netherlands, have roots in the Maluku Islands, which are administered by Indonesia. Using photography, assemblage, and media technologies, they aim to bring the "physical presence" of these lands directly to the heart of Amsterdam.
In the exhibition, visual images and sound rhythms intertwine: the pulsating hearts of the creators, the rhythmic beats of traditional drums, the sound of sago palm being ground into flour. This event is becoming a symbolic return of the Moluccan diaspora to its roots.
"American Photography: The Evolution of Art from 1839 to 1910"

When: Until July 21st
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in New York City.
The development of American photography began in the late 1830s and continued until the early 1910s. This period encompasses a fascinating journey, full of experimentation and technical innovation, which played a vital role in shaping the country's visual culture. From its early stages, when the camera obscura and daguerreotype became available, photography gradually emerged as an independent art form. Over the course of several decades, it evolved, attracting the attention of both professionals and amateurs. Important events and achievements in this field not only reflected changes in society but also set new standards for depicting reality. This era was dynamic, opening the door to a variety of styles and approaches that would later become the foundation for the further development of photography in the United States.
Works by renowned master photographers sit alongside photographs by lesser-known or completely unknown to a wider audience artists, whose images captured life in small towns across America.
The exhibition examines how photographic techniques such as daguerreotype, stereography, and cyanotype evolved over time, as well as how people's perceptions of this innovative technology changed.
The curators explain that the exhibition examines the dramatic shifts in national perception that resulted from photography's rapid rise as a phenomenon influencing culture, commerce, art, and psychology.
"The Garden of Confusion"

Period: June 6 to September 10.
Where: FOAM, Amsterdam
Vietnamese artist Hien Hoang's solo exhibition takes its name from a project that explores the interaction between humanity and nature and was developed in collaboration with scientists. The central theme of this project is a poetic question: what will trees remember about us after we're gone?
Using specialized devices, the artist records plants' reactions to various external stimuli, such as movement and sound. She transforms the data into sculptural objects. This installation allows viewers to experience the vibrations of trees in real time.
Another important aspect of the work involves interaction with mycelium. Hoang creates sculptures using metal and mycelium, then treats them with copper sulfate, which destroys the organic component.
Hoang raises the question of the two-sided influence of technology: it serves both as a means of understanding the world around us and as a factor that can isolate us from it.
The exhibition also included other works by the artist. Among them are the project "Scent from Heaven," which is dedicated to the agarwood, and "Across the Ocean," a work exploring the topic of food in light of cultural stereotypes.
"Nothing New"

From May 24 to September 16.
Venue: C/O Berlin, Berlin.
Julian Rosefeldt has dedicated thirty years of his career to a single exhibition.
Julian Rosefeldt is a contemporary German artist who specializes in audiovisual installations. In his work, he combines still images, text elements, and video materials, forming new levels of meaning.
The main direction of the artist's work is the study of how visual images are formed. Rosefeldt analyzes traditional film and television genres, from Westerns to news programs, to identify their key semantic elements.
The exhibition at C/O Berlin not only showcases Rosefeldt's work from across his career but also offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process. The exhibition features previously unpublished sketches, photographs, and various materials illustrating the stages of his work's creation.
"The Living Art of Documentary Film"
"The Dynamics of Documentary Narrative"
"Documentary Films: Art in Constant Development"
"The Evolution of Documentary Filmmaking: From Stasis to Dynamics"
"The Journey of Documentary Art: Movement and Change"

Period from May 24 to September 16.
Venue: C/O Berlin, the capital of Germany, Berlin.
The diversity of methods and styles in the field of documentary photography can be observed in the work of fourteen laureates of the C/O Berlin Talent Award, who have received this recognition over the years.
The presented materials are not organized by time of creation, but are grouped into four thematic categories.
The first section examines the classic genres of documentary photography, including reportage, landscapes and portraits. The second section examines staging elements, narrative strategies, and the diversity of aesthetic approaches in this field. The third section explores moving images and installations. Finally, the fourth section raises the question of the future of documentary photography: to what extent can it adequately depict reality in the age of smartphones, artificial intelligence, and fake news?
The exhibition, organized in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Berlin gallery, presents a retrospective.
"No preparation was sufficient - every circumstance could have been important"

Period: from June 13 to September 22.
Venue: Centre Pompidou, located in Paris.
Six thousand square meters, formerly occupied by the public library at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, have been transformed into a large-scale installation by Wolfgang Tillmans. This artist, known for his photography, is one of the most significant representatives of contemporary art.
Although the exhibition is divided into various sections, there is no clear narrative. The artworks are hung on the walls and arranged horizontally, filling the entire available space. The photographs are complemented by video recordings, musical accompaniment written by the same author, as well as texts read by Tillmans.
The retrospective exhibition featured numerous photographs capturing the master's works, created over more than 35 years of his artistic career.
«Corbien, Anton»

Period: June 13th – October 12th.
Venue: Fotografiska, located in Stockholm.
Stockholm's Fotografiska gallery is celebrating the 70th birthday of Anton Corbijn, known as the "rock photographer", and 50 years of his career in the art world.
Dutch-born Corbijn achieved international fame for his portraits of celebrities from the music and film industries, as well as his music videos. A recent exhibition in the Swedish capital presents a collection of his best work, with around 200 photographs spanning from the 1970s to the present day. Among the iconic musicians he has captured are such groups as the Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Coldplay, and U2, with whom Corbien has collaborated for almost forty years.
After the exhibition in Stockholm, it will move to Berlin and Tallinn.
Casa Susanna

On view from July 21, 2025 to January 25, 2026.
Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
This photo story about a cross-dressing community in New York City in the 1960s captures men wearing women's clothing. These photographs were taken by the community members themselves, who were documenting their looks. The archive of vintage photographs was discovered at a flea market in Manhattan in 2004.
The exhibition immerses viewers in the double lives these men led, despite being married and having stable careers. The photographs also reveal images of the "ideal" women of that era - such as the "girl next door" or respectable housewives.
