Satyrus effendi is a rare species of butterfly named after Rustam Effendi, a Soviet Azerbaijani entomologist and father of photographer Rena Effendi. Ile Jean Charles, located 80 miles south of New Orleans, faces a serious threat of extinction due to erosion caused by climate change and active oil drilling in coastal waters. Since 1955, 98% of its land has been lost, and the island is now only 3 kilometers long and 300 meters wide.
